Key to this initiative is the Mum & I safe child delivery kit. A low-cost complete kit designed to meet the needs of women at childbirth. Mum & I aim to promote safe infection free birth.
This kit, which provides women all the components recommended by the World Health Organization including Chlorhexidine digluconate 7.1% which helps to prevent infection of the umbilical cord in the new born, will help to impact the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular Goal 3, which seeks to ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages. Goal 3 of the SDGs has the following targets;
3.1 : By 2030, reduce the global maternal mortality ratio to less than 70 per 100,000 live births
3.2 :By 2030, end preventable deaths of newborns and children under 5 years of age, with all countries aiming to reduce neonatal mortality to at least as low as 12 per 1,000 live births and under-5 mortality to at least as low as 25 per 1,000 live births.
The Mum& I safe birth kit will be made available in hospitals, health care centres, maternity homes and clinics as well as non for profit aid organisations working to improve the health and wellbeing of women in developing countries.
